NATIONAL
1. 39-member JPC formed for ‘One Country, One Election’ bill: Union Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal on December 19 announced the formation of a Joint Parliament Committee (JPC) regarding the ‘One Country, One Election’ bill. The JPC formed for the constitutional amendment required for this bill has 39 members. Of these, 27 members of the Lok Sabha and 12 members of the Rajya Sabha, including Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi, will be in the JPC.
On December 17, the ‘One Nation, One Election 129th Constitution (Amendment) Bill’ was introduced in the Lok Sabha, then it was sent to the JPC.
- Bharatiya Janata Party’s Lok Sabha MP Bhartrihari Mahtab has been made the chairman of JPC.
- The purpose of this bill is to decide whether elections for the Lok Sabha and all the state assemblies in the country can be held simultaneously or not.
- From Lok Sabha in JPC, Bhartrihari Mahtab (Speaker), PP Choudhary, CM Ramesh, Bansuri Swaraj, Parshottambhai Rupala, Anurag Singh Thakur, Vishnu Dayal Ram, Sambit Patra, Anil Baluni, Vishnu Dutt Sharma, Baijayant Panda, Sanjay Jaiswal, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Manish Tiwari, Sukhdev Bhagat, Dharmendra Yadav, Chhote Lal, Kalyan Banerjee, TM Selvaganapathy, GM Harish Balayogi, Anil Yashwant Desai, Supriya Sule, Shrikant Eknath Shinde, Sambhavi, K Radhakrishnan, Chandan Chauhan and Balashouri Vallabhaneni have been included.
- Whereas, JPC includes Ghanshyam Tiwari, Bhuvaneshwar Kalita, K Laxman, Kavita Patidar, Sanjay Kumar Jha, Randeep Surjewala, Mukul Wasnik, Saket Gokhale, P Wilson, Sanjay Singh, Manas Ranjan Mangaraj and V Vijay Sai Reddy from Rajya Sabha.
- The Joint Parliament Committee will present the report in the House on the first day of the last week of the next session.

2. Former Haryana Chief Minister Om Prakash Chautala passed away: Former Chief Minister of Haryana and Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) leader Om Prakash Chautala passed away today i.e. on 20th December. He was 89 years old. He suffered a heart attack, after which he was brought to Medanta Hospital in Gurugram at 11.30. About half an hour later, at 12 noon, he breathed his last.
- Chautala was the Chief Minister of the state 5 times and his last tenure was from 1999 to 2005.
- Omprakash Chautala was born on January 1, 1935.
- He was the son of Chaudhary Devi Lal, popularly known as ‘Tau’, the 6th Deputy Prime Minister of India and two-time Chief Minister of Haryana.
- Omprakash Chautala’s electoral politics started in 1968. He contested his first election from Devi Lal’s traditional seat Ellenabad. Against him, Lalchand Khod contested the election from former CM Rao Birendra Singh’s Vishal Haryana Party. Chautala lost this election.
- However, when by-elections were held in 1970, Chautala contested the elections on Janata Dal ticket and became MLA for the first time.
- In 1987, after VP Singh’s Janata Dal government was formed at the Centre, his father Devi Lal was made the Deputy Prime Minister. The next day i.e. on December 2, 1989, Omprakash Chautala became the Chief Minister of Haryana for the first time.
- However, Omprakash Chautala had to resign just 5 and a half months after becoming the Chief Minister for the first time. Banarasi Das Gupta was made the CM in his place.
3. Malayalam actress Meena Ganesh passed away: Malayalam actress Meena Ganesh passed away on 19 December. Meena, who played various memorable roles in Malayalam films and serials, breathed her last at the age of 81.
Meena Ganesh is the wife of renowned theater artist and film artist AN Ganesh.
- Meena Ganesh started acting in Malayalam cinema at the age of 19. However, he started with theatre.
- His film career started in the year 1977 with the film ‘Mani Mujakkam’. The film was directed by PA Backer.
- Meena had worked in more than 100 films in her career. He mostly played supporting roles.
- His films include ‘Mandanmar Londonil’, ‘Utsava Melam’, ‘Golanthara Varta’, ‘Sakshat Sriman Chathunni’, ‘Kalyana Sougandhikam’, ‘Siamese Irattakal’, ‘Sri Krishnapurathe Nakshatratilakkam’, and ‘My Dear Karadi’.
- During his career, he worked with many famous actors of the Kerala film industry. These include Kalabhavan Mani, Prithviraj Sukumaran, Dileep, Mohanlal and Mammootty.
- He worked in his last film in the year 2016.
- Apart from films, she also appeared in some TV serials. These include serials like ‘Ramayanam’, ‘Mangalyam’, ‘Kalyanaveeran’ and ‘Minukkettu’.

4. JK Tire Novice Cup 2024 starts today: Motorsport tournament ‘JK Tire Novice Cup 2024’ started today i.e. 20th December. This race competition is taking place on Friday and Saturday (20th and 21st December) at Kari Motor Speedway Circuit in Chettipalayam, Tamil Nadu. The tournament will crown the champion of the JK Tire Novice Cup 2024 on Saturday, December 21.
There will be five races in the JK Tire Novice Cup 2024 tournament, in which the top finisher will become the overall champion.
- Seven teams will participate in the JK Tire Novice Cup.
- 22 participants from seven teams have participated.
- Many big racers like Bengaluru’s National Racing Champion Ruhan Alva, current champion of JK Tire National Racing Championship in Formula LGB4 Tijil Rao, who is also from Bengaluru, Aamir Saeed (Kottayam), Vishwas Vijayraj, Arjun Nair and Nathan will participate in it.
- Kari Motor Speedway is a Formula Three auto racing circuit or race track. It is built in Chettipalayam, Tamil Nadu.
- This 2.100 km long track was inaugurated in 2003.
- The name of the circuit is S. Named after Karivardhan.
AGREEMENT
5. Micromax partners with Taiwan’s storage chip company: On December 19, Indian electronics company ‘Micromax’ and Taiwan’s storage chip company ‘Phison’ entered into a partnership. Under this, both the companies established a joint venture MiPhi to design and manufacture AI based storage chipset modules.
Micromax will have 55% stake in this partnership and Phison will have 45% stake.
- Phison is a leading company in NAND controller and NAND storage technology.
- Through the joint venture MiPhi, the company will design storage chipsets for servers, which are vital for the country’s development both in terms of security and strategy.
- The aim of this joint venture is to reduce the cost of graphics processing unit i.e. GPU.
- Its focus will be on server storage chipsets. It will be produced from the Noida plant.

6. Masali village of Gujarat becomes the country’s first border solar village: Masali village in Banaskantha district of Gujarat has become the first border solar village in the country. In this village with a population of about 800, solar rooftops have been installed on all 119 houses.
Masali village of Gujarat is just 40 kilometers away from the Pakistan border.
- Rs 1 crore 16 lakh were spent to complete this project.
- In this, subsidy of Rs 59.81 lakh was spent under PM Suryaghar Yojana, public contribution of Rs 20.52 lakh and support of Rs 35.67 lakh was spent under CSR i.e. ‘Corporate Social Responsibility’.
- The village is now getting 225.5 kilowatts of electricity, which is enough for the needs of every household.
- Work is underway on a plan to convert 17 villages in the border areas of Gujarat into complete solar villages. The work of one of these spices has been completed.
- Earlier in the year 2022, Modhera village of Gujarat was declared the country’s first solar energy-powered village. Solar panels have been installed in more than 1,300 rural houses in Modhera village.
