1. PM Modi laid the foundation stone of a project worth Rs 5700 crore: Prime Minister Narendra Modi installed the Kalash for Prayagraj Mahakumbh today i.e. on 13th December. Besides, he inaugurated and laid the foundation stone of 167 projects worth Rs 5700 crore. These projects belong to the Railway Ministry of the Central Government and many departments of the State Government. Governor Anandi Ben Patel and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath were present along with PM Modi in this ceremony.

During this, PM also launched 'Kumbh Sah'AI'yak Chatbot'. This AI chatbot is capable of chatting in 11 languages.

  • PM Modi inaugurated 61 road schemes at a cost of Rs 1,376 crore.
  • 10 railway over bridge fly overs will also be built in Prayagraj at a cost of Rs 1,170 crore.
  • Apart from this, the scheme of blockage, diversion and strengthening of 4 drains worth Rs 100 crore has been completed.
  • Strengthening work of 7 permanent drains and 8 river bank roads has been done in Sangam city at a cost of Rs 304 crore.
  • Also, 13 sewerage projects and drinking water facilities have been developed at a cost of Rs 215 crore.
  • Apart from this, installation of four new transformers, two sub-stations and upgradation of power infrastructure has been done at a cost of Rs 203 crore.

Defense Ministry signs deal worth Rs 13,500 crore with HAL: The Defense Ministry has signed a deal worth Rs 13,500 crore with the country’s leading government company Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) to buy 12 Sukhoi jets. 62.6% of the material required to make the aircraft will be domestic. The Defense Ministry gave this information by tweeting on social media platform X on December 12.

  • Russian origin Su-30 MKI jets are being purchased for the Indian Air Force. Now HAL will manufacture them.

  • During the Second World War, the government purchased one-third of the company’s stake in March 1941, and after independence, Hindustan Aircraft Limited was taken under the administrative control of the Ministry of Defence, in January 1951.
  • After this, in October 1964, Hindustan Aircraft Limited was merged with Aeronautics India Limited and thus Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) came into existence.

3. ‘Disaster Management (Amendment) Bill, 2024’ passed in Lok Sabha: On December 12, the ‘Disaster Management (Amendment) Bill, 2024’ was passed in the Lok Sabha. The purpose of this bill is to amend the Disaster Management Act, 2005. As per the Disaster Management Act 2005, the National Executive Committee (NEC) and State Executive Committees (SEC) are responsible for disaster management with the help of the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) and State Disaster Management Authorities (SDMA).

  • Now it has been proposed in the amendment bill that NDMA and SDMA should prepare their own disaster management plans, bypassing NEC and SEC.
  • According to this bill, giving false information or spreading rumors related to disaster management can lead to a jail term of one to two years.
  • Under the Bill, a comprehensive database will be created at both the national and state levels. Things like disaster expenses, allocation of money, pre-disaster preparedness and risk register will be included in this database.
  • At present the Central Government appoints officers and employees in NDMA. At the same time, the new bill allows NDMA to determine its own appointment requirements and appoint experts with the approval of the Central Government.
  • The bill proposes Urban Disaster Management Authorities (UDMA) for state capitals and big cities except Delhi NCR and Union Territory Chandigarh.
  • These authorities will be headed by Municipal Corporation Commissioners and District Collectors, who will look after the work of urban disaster management.
  • This bill empowers state governments to create State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) to increase their capacity.

Chief Minister of Uttarakhand inaugurates the 10th World Ayurveda Congress 2024: Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami inaugurated the 10th World Ayurveda Congress and Arogya Expo 2024 in Dehradun on December 12. It is organized every 2 years. The first Ayurveda conference was held in Kochi, Kerala in 2002.

History of 13 December: On this day in 2001, the Parliament of India was attacked. In this terrorist attack, 5 police personnel deployed in the Parliament House, a woman security guard of CRPF, 2 employees of Rajya Sabha and a gardener were killed. That day, five terrorists in a white Ambassador car had shocked the entire India by spraying bullets at the biggest temple of democracy in 42 minutes. Just two days after the attack, on December 15, 2001, Afzal Guru, SAR Geelani, Afshan Guru and Shaukat Hussain were arrested for planning the attack.
