There has been a controversy over the social media posts of some Bangladeshi students studying in Aligarh Muslim University. In the Facebook post, the student described ISKCON as a ‘fanatic Hindu organization’ and made derogatory comments on Indian women.

In protest against this, Hindu students of AMU demonstrated against these students and demanded their expulsion from the university.

In one of his posts, a Bangladeshi student described the ‘International Society for Krishna Consciousness’ i.e. ISKON as a ‘fundamentalist Hindu organization’. In the controversial post, the student had written, ‘We demand that ISKCON be banned. I repeat, ISKCON is a staunch Hindutva organization. We have no conflict with common Hindus. Our conflict is with fundamentalist Hindutva.

Currently 36 students from Bangladesh are studying in AMU. Three Bangladeshi students who posted anti-national and anti-Hindu posts have been identified as Samuel, Rifat Rahman and Mahmud Hasan Arafat. According to media reports, Samuel has returned to Bangladesh after completing his BA degree.

Mahmood Hasan had got admission in BA LLB course, but he did not take admission. According to the information, he is also currently in Bangladesh. Whereas the third student Rifat Rehman is currently studying BA third year in AMU.

Demand to send those who made controversial posts to Bangladesh

After the controversial posts went viral, Hindu students protested in the university and demanded the expulsion of Bangladeshi students from the university.

According to media reports, several Hindu students, including Akhil Kaushal, Hitesh Mewada, Puneet, Piyush and Rohit, gave a written complaint to the AMU proctor on the night of December 10. These students said that Bangladeshi students not only insulted ISKCON, but they were also making anti-India statements and promoting violence against Hindus in Bangladesh.

Akhil Kaushal is a postgraduate student at AMU. He described the Bangladeshi students who posted as supporters of the Yunus government of Bangladesh and made 3 demands for strict action-

Hindu students have also demanded that the university should screen all foreign students and their social media activities should be monitored. It should be seen that he does not post anti-India content. The protesting students burnt posters of the Bangladesh President, waved the tricolor and also raised slogans of ‘Vande Mataram’ and ‘Bharat Mata ki Jai’.

Asked for information from admission center of Bangladesh, sent notice to a student

On this whole matter, Deputy Proctor of the University, Prof. S Nawaz Zaidi said that the details of the three students have been sent to the admission center of AMU in Bangladesh. More information is being collected from there. He said that after investigation, further action will be taken based on the facts.

Nawaz Zaidi also said, ‘The language of the posts on which there is controversy is Bengali. We will see whether those students are from the university or not. The allegations will be thoroughly investigated. If anyone is found guilty the university will take appropriate action.
