1. PM Modi launches ‘Bima Sakhi Yojana’: Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched ‘Bima Sakhi Yojana’ in Panipat, Haryana on 9 December. This scheme has been specially designed keeping in mind the rural women so that they can be economically empowered. Under this scheme, women will get a chance to work as insurance agents with Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC).

This scheme will provide monthly stipend and commission-based incentives to women for three years, which will help them achieve economic independence.

  • Women applying for Bima Sakhi Yojana should be between 18 to 70 years of age and should have at least 10th pass.
  • However, relatives of LIC agents or employees, such as spouse, children, parents, siblings or in-laws, cannot apply for this scheme.
  • Moreover, former employees or former agents of LIC will also not be eligible for this scheme.
  • Under the scheme, women will be given monthly stipend for three years.
  • You will get a stipend of Rs 7,000 per month for the first year. A stipend of Rs 6,000 per month will be available in the second year, but the condition for this is that at least 65% of the policies completed in the first year remain active at the end of every month of the second year.
  • A stipend of Rs 5,000 per month will be given in the third year, but for this it is necessary that at least 65% of the policies completed in the second year remain active at the end of every month of the third year.
  • That means, to get the stipend every year, it will be mandatory for women to keep their policies active.
  • Women will have to submit some important documents during the application process. These include passport size photo, age proof, address proof and 10th class mark sheet.

2. PM Modi inaugurates ‘Rising Rajasthan Global Investment Summit 2024’ in Jaipur: Prime Minister Modi inaugurated the ‘Rising Rajasthan Global Investment Summit 2024’ in Jaipur today, 9 December. This summit will last for 3 days and representatives from 32 countries are participating in it. Pravasi Rajasthani Conclave will be held on the second day of the program, while MSME Conclave will be hosted on the last day.

  • Other countries participating in this investment summit include US, UK, Germany, Australia, Indonesia, Egypt, Finland, Russia, Seychelles, Chad, Ecuador, Ghana, Iraq, Madagascar, Paraguay and Zimbabwe.
  • During this three-day summit, country sessions and roundtables are also being organized for a total of 8 countries.
  • The summit included thematic sessions across 12 sectors.
  • Many experts from the country and the world, people from the industry and business world, officials from the Central and Rajasthan governments will participate in these sessions and during this the major challenges, technological changes and emerging opportunities related to the related subject will be discussed.
  • The 12 theme based sessions include Women Entrepreneurship, Manufacturing, Water Management and Sustainability, Sustainable Energy, Healthcare, Sustainable Mining, Startups, Education, Sustainable Finance, Agri-Business, Tourism and Infrastructure and Supply Chain.

3. Union Minister of State Jitin Prasad launches India Internet Governance Forum: Minister of State for Electronics and Information Technology Jitin Prasad launched the fourth edition of India Internet Governance Forum (IIGF) in New Delhi on December 9. This program will continue for two days.

4. Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri reached Dhaka on Bangladesh tour: India’s Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri reached Dhaka today i.e. on 9 December amid attacks on Hindus in Bangladesh. He was welcomed by Ishrat Jahan, Director General (South Asia) in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Bangladesh. As Foreign Secretary, this is Misri’s first visit to Bangladesh.

During the one-day visit, Misri met his Bangladeshi counterpart Mohammad Jasim Uddin.

  • This is also the first high-level meeting between the two countries in Dhaka after the fall of Sheikh Hasina’s government in August 2024.

  • The Egyptians will return to New Delhi on Monday night itself.

5. Bangladesh won the second consecutive Under-19 Asia Cup: Bangladesh has won the Men’s Under-19 Asia Cup title for the second consecutive time. The team defeated India by 59 runs in the final played in Dubai on 8 December. The Indian team missed out on winning the Asia Cup trophy for the 9th time.

6. Devjit Saikia became the interim secretary of BCCI: On December 7, BCCI Joint Secretary Devjit Saikia has been made the interim secretary of the board. He will replace Jay Shah, who took over as ICC chairman on December 1. Saikia is a lawyer and has played domestic cricket for Assam.
