Devajit Saikia became the Joint Secretary of BCCI in 2019.

BCCI Joint Secretary Dewajit Saikia has been made the interim secretary of the board. He replaces Jay Shah, who took over as ICC chairman on December 1. Saikia is a lawyer and has played domestic cricket for Assam.

According to the reports till date, Saikia has not become the permanent secretary. Elections are yet to be held for this post, which may take place in December or January.

Saikia went to Dubai as BCCI representative ICC meeting was held in Dubai this week, in which Saikia represented BCCI. The meeting was led by Chairman Jai Shah, Saikia will now take over in place of Shah. Before this he was Joint Secretary in the Board. It is believed that after the BCCI Secretary election, Saikia will again be made Joint Secretary.

Played domestic cricket for Assam Devajit is a resident of Guwahati, he was born in 1969. In 1984, he got a chance to play for the Assam team in the CK Nayudu Trophy. Till 1989, he was also a part of Assam Under-19 team. He also played with Sourav Ganguly in the East Zone team. In 1991, he made his Ranji Trophy debut for Assam as a wicketkeeper.

At the age of 21, Devajit left professional cricket to focus on academics. After completing his master’s degree in Economics, he took a law degree and became a lawyer. Saikia has also led India in the Lawyers’ Cricket World Cup.

Became Joint Secretary in 2019 Saikia became a part of Guwahati Sports Academy in 2003. Till 2018, he took part in the administration of different sports industries. In 2019, he became the Joint Secretary of BCCI, during which Sourav Ganguly was the Chairman of the Board. Saikia has been a part of BCCI since then.
