Dream 11 has taken this decision after the online gaming bill 2025. The bill has a real-mani gaming platforms banned.
Before the Asia Cup 2025, Dream-11 has decided to withdraw from the lead sponsor of the Indian cricket team. BCCI Secretary Devjit Psychia gave this information on 25 August today.
He said- BCCI and Dream 11 will no longer live together as the bill controlling online gaming has passed. BCCI will not associate with any such company in future.
The bill has a real-mani gaming platforms like Dream 11. Dream 11 signed a three -year sponsorship contract with BCCI in 2023 for Rs 358 crore.
Contract was to end in 2026, three big things
- Dream 11 Under this deal, BCCI used to give 3 crore rupees for every home match.
- There were Rs 1 crore BCCI for every match played abroad.
- After the contract is over, BCCI will now start the tender process for new sponsors.
Breaking the deal due to special clause will not be fined
Dream 11 will not have to pay a fine to eliminate its sponsorship agreement with BCCI ahead of time. The reason for this is that the agreement includes a special clause.
It says that if any government law affects the main business of sponsor, then they will not have to pay any fine.
The new government’s new law has banned real-mani gaming, which affects the core business of Dream 11. Because of this Dream 11 can end the sponsorship contract.
A new sponsor can become a company like Tata-Reliance
Older companies like Tata Group, Reliance and Adani Group are emerging as strong contenders. Tata is already an official sponsor of the IPL. Reliance Jio is involved in sports sponsorship and broadcasting rights. Adani Group has also invested in Sport Ventures.
Dream 11 earned 67% from the real money segment
Dream 11 has a real money gaming segment 67% of the company’s total earnings. That is, most of the company’s earnings came from games like fantasy cricket.
Here users used to make their teams by putting money and got cash prize on winning. These games have now become illegal under the new bill.
According to the report, the company’s CEO Harsh Jain told the employees that there is no legal way to continue real money gaming under the new law.
Because of this, Dream 11 decided to shut down his core business. The company will now focus on its non-real money gaming ventures.
Online gaming bill 2025 received President’s approval
The President’s approval was received on the online gaming bill 2025 on 22 August. Now this has become a law. On 21 August 2025, the Rajya Sabha approved the Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Bill 2025 by the Rajya Sabha and a day before that. The bill was introduced by Electronics and Information Technology Minister Ashwini Vaishnav.
4 strict rules in online gaming law
It has been said in this law that whether these games are a skill based or a chance based on both.
- Ban on real-mani games: It is illegal to offer, run, promote any money based game. Those who play online games will not be punished.
- Punishment and fine: If someone offers a real-meri game or promotes it, he can be imprisoned up to 3 years and a fine of up to Rs 1 crore. The advertisements may be fined 2 years in jail and up to Rs 50 lakh.
- Regulatory Authority: A special authority will be created, which will regulate the gaming industry, register the games and decide which game is a real-mani game.
- Promotion of e-sports: E-sports and social games like Pubji and Free Fire will be supported. These games are without money, so they will be encouraged.
Money based gaming is suffering financial loss
The government says that people are suffering mental and financial loss due to money based online gaming. Some people drowned so much in gaming addiction that they lost their lives and in some cases, reports of suicide were also revealed.
Apart from this, there are also concerns about money laundering and national security. The government wants to take strict steps to stop it.
Minister Ashwini Vaishnav said in Parliament, “Online money games are causing a big problem in the society. They are increasing drugs, the savings of families are ending.
It is estimated that around 45 crore people are affected by this and middle-class families have lost Rs 20,000 crore. ”He also said that the World Health Organization (WHO) has recognized it as a gaming disorder.
Online gaming market was 86% Revenue from Real Money Format
The online gaming market in India is currently worth around Rs 32,000 crore. Out of this, 86% of revenue used to come from real money format. It was expected to reach around 80 thousand crore rupees by 2029. But now they have closed real money games.
The people of the industry are saying that this move of the government may put 2 lakh jobs in danger. The government may also suffer a loss of tax of about 20 thousand rupees every year.
