The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has issued strict instructions to include Central-Contractable players in the major domestic tournament like Dalip Trophy. This step was taken when South Zone did not choose big players like KL Rahul, Mohammad Siraj, Washington Sundar, famous Krishna and Sai Sudarshan in their Dalip Trophy team. The tournament is scheduled to begin in Bengaluru from August 28. Letter sent by BCCI Last week, BCCI General Manager (Cricket Operations) Abhay Kuruvilla sent an email to all state cricket associations. In this, he talked about honoring the Dalip Trophy and maintaining its competition at a high level. Kuruvilla wrote, To maintain the status of the Dalip Trophy, all available Indian players are required to be selected in their zonal teams. Zonal convenors are requested to ensure that all available Indian players are selected for the Dalip Trophy.
Last year, BCCI instructed all international players to play home tournaments Last year, BCCI made a rule that it is mandatory for all international players to participate in domestic cricket. This decision was taken when some players preferred IPL. Even after Australia’s Test tour in January this year, BCCI reiterated the rule.
However, many state associations believe that big players should play for India-A or Board President XI instead of Dalip or Deoghar Trophy. He argues that players who perform well in the Ranji Trophy do not get a chance, as big players join the zonal teams directly. This breaks the courage of Ranji players.
The famous Krishna has taken 14 wickets in the Test series on a recently concluded England tour.
South Zone’s decision and confusion South Zone first announced its Duleep Trophy team on 27 July, in which Tilak Verma was made the captain. This instruction of BCCI did not come at that time. Now it is not clear whether South Zone will change its team after Kuruvilla’s email.
South Zone appointed Tilak Verma as the captain of the team.
Who will play Dalip Trophy This time in the Dalip Trophy, big players like Shubman Gill (Test captain), Yashasvi Jaiswal, Kuldeep Yadav, Akash Deep, Mohammed Shami, Arshdeep Singh and Shreyas Iyer will be seen playing for their respective zonal teams.
What do BCCI rules say? Kuruvilla also clarified in his email that all contracts would have to follow the BCCI guidelines. He wrote, ‘All the players, whether contracts or not, are available for selection for the Indian team, they will have to participate in the BCCI’s domestic tournament. If a player does not participate in domestic cricket despite being available, he will not be considered for selection, unless permission from the National Coach and the Chairman of the Selection Committee. The holiday will be given only on the basis of valid and solid reasons.
