The Sports Ministry has sent the names of the players who won the medals to India in the Paris Olympic 2024 for Padma Shri. This list is also included D. Gukesh, who won the World Chase Championship.
A source in the Sports Ministry told Dainik Bhaskar- “Apart from the medalist of the Paris Olympic, D Gukesh’s name has also been sent.”
Last year, the award was received by veteran spinner R Ashkin and former hockey goalkeeper PR Sreejesh. India won 6 medals at the Paris Olympic Games held in August-September last year. These included one silver, 5 bronze.
Neeraj-Shrijesh has got Padma Shri before
Neeraj Chopra and goalkeeper PR Sreejesh have already received Padma Shri in the players who won India medals at the Paris Olympics. In such a situation, this award cannot be given to them again. Apart from Neeraj-Shrijesh, the names of Manu Bhakar, Sarabjot Singh, Swapnil Kusale and Aman Sehrawat have been sent.
Neeraj Chopra was awarded the Padma Shri by the then President Ram Nath Kovind in 2022.
All the nominations of the Padma Award are presented before the Padma Award Committee, which is formed every year the Prime Minister. The Padma Award Committee is the Chairman of the Cabinet Secretary and includes the Home Secretary, the President of the President and 4 to 6 members. The recommendations of the committee are presented to the Prime Minister and the President of India for approval.
