1. Padma Vibhushan Jagadguru Rambhadracharya awarded 58th Jnanpith Award
On 16 May, President Draupadi Murmu presented the prestigious 58th Jnanpith Award to Padma Vibhushan Jagadguru Rambhadracharya at a ceremony held in New Delhi.
Jagadguru Rambhadracharya (right) received the 58th Jnanpith Award for his contribution to Sanskrit language and literature.
- In February 2024, Swami Rambhadracharya and famous Urdu poet and lyricist Gulzar were selected for the award.
- Being unwell, Gulzar could not attend the award ceremony.
- Jnanpith Award is India’s highest literary award.
- This award is given by the Indian Jnanpith Trust for outstanding contribution to Indian literature.
- An amount of Rs 11 lakh is given to the person who is honored.
- Apart from this, a bronze statue of Vagdevi is also given along with citation.
- This award was the first time in 1965 Malayalam Kavi G. Shankar Kurup was given to his poetry collection Odakuzhal.
2. A stand of Wankhede Stadium was named after Rohit Sharma On 16 May, a stand of Wankhede Stadium was named after Indian ODI captain Rohit Sharma.
Rohit’s mother Purnima Sharma, father Gurunath Sharma and Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis inaugurated the stand.
- With this, Rohit Sharma now joined the list of former great players like Sachin Tendulkar and Sunil Gavaskar.
- It is a level-3 stand, earlier known as Divecha Pavilion.
- Its proposal was introduced by Maharashtra leader Milind Narvekar, which was approved in the annual meeting last month.
- At the same time, the Grand Stand Level-3 will now be known as Sharad Pawar Stand, while the name of Level-4 will be changed to Ajit Wadekar Stand.
- The office of Wankhede Stadium is now named in memory of former president Amol Kale.

1. Himachal Board 12th Result declared On May 17, Himachal Pradesh School Education Board i.e. HPBOSE declared the 12th result. This year, a total of 83.16% students passed the 12th examination. St. D.R. of Una district Mehak, a student of Public Senior Secondary School, has topped with 97.2% marks. Mehak has scored 486 out of 500 in Science Stream.
Students can download their marksheets from the official website hpbose.org.
This year, Ankita of Kangra district with 96.6% i.e. 483 marks has topped the Arts stream and 96.4% i.e. 482 marks in Payal Sharma Commerce. A total of 86,373 students took the exam, out of which 71,591 students passed. Himachal Pradesh 12th Board Exam was between 4 March to 29 March 2025.
2. IIFT’s first offshore campus will open in Dubai
On 16 May, the Indian Institute of Foreign Trade i.e. IIFT announced to open its first offshore i.e. foreign campus in Dubai. The Government of India has approved the proposal to set up the first offshore campus to this institute under the Ministry of Commerce.
IIFT has also received No Objection Certificate (NOC) from Ministry of Home Affairs, Ministry of External Affairs and University Grants Commission i.e. UGC. The process of making campus will start soon.
The rules of this campus will be similar to Indian institutions. Its objective is to give international students as well as Indians living in Gulf to study foreign trade.
